The End of Impunity
The case of Alberto Fujimori suggests that other rogue heads of state will face consequences for their actions.

Oct. 8, 2007 issue - After nearly two yearsunder house arrest in Santiago, Chile, former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori settled into his new quarters last week—a comfortable if spartan suite of rooms at a police base in the eastern suburbs of Lima—where he will await his upcoming trials on charges of corruption and human-rights abuses. If convicted, Fujimori, 69, is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison. But Chile's decision to send Fujimori home has already sent ripples throughout the world of international criminal justice.

Comentario: Precisamente porque el poder principal es el mediático, es importante que los medios internacionales cubran lo que ocurre con Fujimori. No es sólo Fujimori, sino todos los dictadores, los golpistas, los violadores de los derechos humanos en el mundo. Toca que en el Perú se sepa que los ojos del mundo están sobre lo que se haga en le país, que el estándar de justicia no es ni puede ser local, sino internacional. El Perú supuestamente se está abriendo al mundo en muchos aspectos. Sin embargo, no puede permanecer cerrado como la chacra de un dictador que hace lo que quiere con total impunidad. Esos tiempos ya fueron. Se quiere otro país, mucho mejor.
